Production of guidance marking

MEDIALINE warning, indicating and tactile strips

COLAS CZ, a.s. manufactures MEDIALINE warning, indicating and tactile strips. These strips provide indication of areas on the road surfaces for safe guidance of blind or visually impaired persons pursuant to Decree 398/2009 Coll.

The MEDIALINE strip has been certified pursuant to section 2 and 3 of the Government Decree No. 163/2002 Coll.

The warning, indicating and tactile strips and their usage are defined in Annex No. 1 of Decree 398 /2009 Coll.

User properties of the MEDIALINE strips have been assessed by the Centre for Barrier Removal, Sjednocená organizace nevidomých a slabozrakých, Praha 1, Krakovská 21.

MEDIALINE strips have been produced in the Czech Republic since 2006 according to a patented manufacturing process.  The product has been tested by the Institute for Testing and Certification ITC Zlín and a Building Technical Certificate No. AO 224-319/2011/a has been issued.

MEDIALINE is produced from two basic materials:

  • Elastomer – the basic strip
  • Cold cast two-component plastic – tactile bumps

Compared with other products used in tactile modifications for the blind or visually impaired, the MEDIALINE colour is rich white, which creates a strong visual contrast on practically any surface of the pavement. Thus, visually impaired persons with some remaining sight can more easily perceive the tactile modifications.

Application of the MEDIALINE strips does not demand intervention in the surface on which the tactile modifications are installed. There is no noise or dust, which is otherwise produced by removal of the surfaces or storage of the removed materials.

Medialine warning, indicating and tactile strips can be walked on about 30 minutes after application.

On average, two workers can install 60 m2 of these strips, i.e. about 160 pieces, in one shift.

The MEDIALINE strips are produced in two dimensions – 600 x 400 mm and 908 x 420 mm. The products are packed 10 pieces per carton. The strips are applied using a special two-component adhesive based on methacrylate.

In addition to white, the tactile bumps can now also be cast in yellow, black, grey and red.
