COLAS CZ becomes a patron of the Secondary School in Nový Bydžov

August 28, 2019

We became a patron of the Secondary Technical and Craft School in Nový Bydžov.

From the 2019/2020 school year, there will be one more subject to offer in this field of study at this secondary school: a road and construction machine operator.

It will be a model of teaching in which the theory in school desks alternates with practice. Students will thus always spend two weeks at school and another two  in workshops or directly at the Colas construction sites where our experts will take care of them. From our side, this project will be attended by an expert in mechanical technology, Jan Zajíček and Martin Tůma, whose task will be to prepare students for passing exams to obtain an engineering license. The patron and initiator of the pilot project in the north of Bohemia is our experienced Site Manager and internal lecturer Miloš Trutnovský.

The first pilot year, where we will strive to participate directly in the education of future construction machine operators, will be evaluated at the end of the school year, i.e. in June 2020. We believe that after trying out this model in Nový Bydžov, we will be able to extend it to other regions as well.

In times of very low unemployment, the labor market is demanding even in the construction field. It is therefore necessary to look for other ways to motivate and recruit new employees. The partnership with the Secondary Technical and Craft School in Nový Bydžov is one of the promising ways to directly address young people with the assurance that they will get to like the practical education they receive in our company and will start working here as employees after school.
