SÚ 13 303 Wilsonova, direction of Praha 4, Hybernská – Wenceslas Square section, STAGE 2

The repair involved a 470 m long stretch from the Prague Main Railway Station to Wenceslas Square in the direction of Prague 4.

Construction period: 2016/07 - 2016/08
Total value of the contract: 14 087 929 CZK excluding VAT

It has three to five traffic lanes and is 11 to 20 m wide. Before repair, the road was highly defective: ruts, crosswise and lengthwise cracks, potholes, leakage into the subway and the underpass, upturned and disarrayed granite kerbs, blocked and often dysfunctional drainage inlets.

To ensure traffic in the city centre and coordination with PPDS (a gas pipeline breakdown), the construction was divided into four stages: A stretch from the Main Railway Station to Smetanovo Theatre – the left and then the right side. And a stretch from Smetanovo Theatre to Wenceslas Square – the right and then the left side.

100 mm of bitumen layers were continuously milled from the road. Cracks in the substructure were additionally milled and reinforced by a geogrid with fibreglass. The roadway structure was demolished to the supporting reinforced concrete bridge structure on an underpass at the Main Railway Station and subway at Smetanovo Theatre. The reinforced concrete structure was renovated and a sealing layer with new hydro insulation and a protective layer of poured asphalt and plain concrete were added. The granite kerbs and road inlets were continuously repaired. At the end of each stage, two layers of modified asphalt (ACL 16S 60mm and ACO 11S 40 mm) were laid and new horizontal marking was applied.
